Technologies
This personal homepage is built on the following technologies:
- All text is written as markdown files.
- All text is assembled into HTML using the zola static site generator.
- I wrote the theme, including CSS and templates myself. It was adapted from an earlier Neocities page I made. It's ongoing work as I get to know zola better. It's fun.
- I use no cookies.
- I use no web fonts. I rely on the fonts already in your browser.
- So far, no Javascript, except for on the contact form page (which is externally loaded).
- All assets are either my own or I link directly to the source on the same page where they appear.
- I host this homepage on Cloudflare Pages, because it is easy and free. I can easily switch to something else.
- I occasionally use AI to assist me with changes and experiments, but I personally vet every line of code produced, and often rewrite it completely to my own personal taste.
Philosophy
- I only write stuff that I enjoy writing -- and reading afterwards.
- I try not to use too many words where few are needed. Less is more.
- I try to explain things such that anyone dropping by would be able understand what I'm talking about without too much context. I have no specific audience in mind other than myself and the occasional random visitor from the internet.
- I try to be inclusive and non-political.
- I try not to be too critical of things I don't like. It's better to focus on the good parts when possible.
- I don't expect my writing to be perfect, great, or even good -- but I hope it's at least somewhat interesting and feels personal. Basically the opposite of AI slop. That's what I strive for.
- I try to make something that is permanent, long lasting, and potentially beneficial to others. Even if few will ever read it.
- The page should be easy to load, easy to read, easy on the eyes, and uncluttered. It should work equally well on desktop, mobile, and in the terminal.
I could probably add many more points, but I think this covers 90% of what's important right now. I will revise and rewrite over the coming year and see where it lands.
